Here, we are honored to introduce the wonderful speakers who will open up the NOVA Hackathon.
A hackathon is an event of any duration where people come together to solve problems creatively using technology. Maybe you are new to technology or curious about it. At inNOVAtion, you can learn about programming, technology, and security, then apply those skills to challenges for fun and prizes! Below is a fantastic video explaining what hacking is and why it should not be viewed only in a negative light. inNOVAtion is to encourage creative problem solving to better secure our computer connected world and a forum of networking. Do not be afraid to come out and give it a shot!

A hackathon? What is it?
This April, Northern Virginia Community College will be hosting its very own hackathon event, inNOVAtion! This 36 hour period will be filled with tech talks, programming, cyber security practice, food, fun and cutting edge creation. The focus of this event will be on secure coding to advocate for a more secure cyberspace and showcase the importance of cybersecurity to organizations, companies, and everyone else. Do not be intimidated, there are talks and challenges for every level of skill from beginner to advanced. This is a great opportunity to gain experience and learn about the booming computer science and information technology industries. Learn from working together with knowledgable individuals, hands-on experience, and promoting cybersecurity through secure coding. With only 350 spaces and free registration, spaces will fill up fast! Register now!

Frances is a senior majoring in computer science at Hampton University who considers herself a developer with a design background. She has a part-time job as a front-end developer for 80|20 and before that, she attended Fullstack Academy. She gets a sort of personal satisfaction out of helping out the community through her technical skills which is why she’ll be speaking about JS Coding Bootcamps and Web Design.
Wayne Stilwell is the CEO of a growing tech start up that develops team robotics software, develops human on the loop command and control systems with embedded discrete operational research simulation, develops robotics educational technology, consults for NATO and Allied national defense formations in simulation, training and individual education, and develops opportunities in the tech sector for transitioning US veterans.
Mr. Marvin Marin, ISSMP and C|CISO, is a Program Manager and cybersecurity expert with Haystax supporting Coast Guard Cyber Command. He has more than 17 years of subject matter expertise in the information technology industry, supporting government and military customers in areas such as: Penetration Testing, Forensics, Incident Response, SOC Management, Assessments, Independent Validation & Verification (IV&V), and Certification & Accreditation. Mr. Marin assisted in the development of the Web Application Security Program within the Coast Guard and developed a course and instructed on Incident Response to a federal law enforcement agency. Mr. Marin has published articles on cybersecurity and was a contributing editor for SANS. Mr. Marin is married to his wife Angela, and has twins; Enrique and Mia.
Tony has been hacking out code since he was in third grade writing BASIC and Logo on his dad’s Commodore 64. He graduated from the College of William and Mary with a BS in Computer Science in 2000. Afterwards, he began his career in software development and consulting. He also taught computer science to high school students and served a tour as a paratrooper in the armed forces where he earned the Purple Heart and Army Commendation medals.
Ron Haddox, CISSP, PMP and SAP, is the owner and WordPress developer for On the Pike Networks a local business from Arlington VA supporting small businesses. His background includes everything from WordPress Penetration Testing and Incident Response, building custom WordPress templates and managing the WordPress cloud servers. He has developed and managed WordPress sites for a very diverse client base, from a law practice to a bike shop. Ron’s expertise and dedication in the cyber security field led him to become the head coach for the CCDC (2013-2016) and NCL competitions (2014-2015) at Northern Virginia Community College (Woodbridge Campus).
Christine de Souza is a seasoned cyber security professional working as an
Information System Security Officer specializing in Government compliance. She is a Director of the Cyber Security Forum Initiative, where she volunteers her talents to help further the cause of cyber awareness and collaboration. Christine also serves in the 175th Cyber Operations Group of the MD Air National Guard in support of US CYBERCOMMAND, where she participates in the Exercise Cell and the State Partnership Program for Peace. She earned her Master’s in Cybersecurity with dual specializations in
Intelligence and Forensics from Utica College.

Dr. Letteer is the Marine Corps Senior Information Security Official (SISO) and the Chief of the Cybersecurity Division of the Command, Control, Communications, and Computer (C4) Department at Headquarters, U.S. Marine Corps. As such, he is responsible for and oversees all Cybersecurity (CY) tasks, standards, and conditions within the Marine Corps, which includes Computer Network Defense (CND), Defensive Cyber Operations (DCO), Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), Electronic Key Management Systems (EKMS), and Certification & Accreditation (C&A).
